Early Childhood Teacher
If your nominated occupation is Early Childhood (Pre-Primary School) Teacher (ANZSCO 241111) and your visa pathway requires a skills assessment, ACECQA (Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority) is the relevant skills assessing authority. ACECQA’s skills assessment is for migration purposes only and is separate from ACECQA’s qualification assessment work under the National Quality Framework (NQF).

Assessment standards for Early Childhood (Pre-Primary School) Teacher
Qualification requirement
To receive a positive skills assessment, you must hold an ACECQA nationally approved early childhood teaching (ECT) qualification, or an equivalent qualification.
Note: If you do not currently hold an ACECQA nationally approved ECT (or equivalent) qualification, ACECQA will assess your qualification/s under the NQF as part of your skills assessment (dual assessment). Additional evidence may be required.
English language proficiency (ECT)
You must provide evidence of English language proficiency. ACECQA considers proficiency demonstrated by one of the following:
- One year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) tertiary or higher education study completed in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States of America; OR
- IELTS Academic (undertaken in the last 3 years): at least 7.0 in reading and writing, and at least 8.0 in speaking and listening; OR
- ISLPR Teacher-focused assessment (undertaken in the last 3 years): Level 4 in all four skill areas (listening, speaking, reading and writing) at an approved testing site; OR
- On a case-by-case basis: a professional reference from an employer in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
Note: ACECQA reserves the right to ask an applicant to undertake IELTS Academic if there is uncertainty about their level of English language proficiency.
Processing validity
A successful skills assessment outcome is valid for a three-year period. If you need a new assessment after expiry, you must re-apply.

online skills assessment application form and pay the fee.
Wait for ACECQA’s
email confirming whether your application is ‘assessment ready’ or if further information is required.
Receive the outcome
by email and provide the skills assessment outcome to the Department of Home Affairs with your visa application (when required).

Yes, you can still apply. ACECQA can do a dual assessment and check whether your qualification(s) are equivalent to an approved ECT qualification during the skills assessment. If it’s equivalent, you can get a positive outcome.
If your Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) is from overseas, you generally need ACECQA to assess your qualification as equivalent under the NQF first. Once you receive a positive equivalence outcome, you can then proceed to lodge your ACECQA migration skills assessment application.
